Essay --

The American Constitution was a product of the extensive and considerable debates on theoretical argumentation. Robert Yates, assumed to be the writer of pseudonym Brutus I, represents the Anti-Federalist view of governments and the way that constitution should assert their powers on society, while Federalist 10 gives us an glimpse of the Federalist view of society. Both these documents present us with the best examples of Anti-Federalist and Federalist thought. A major topic discussion between these two documents is the size of republics, as well as each view as to why their notions are the best for the new society. Anti-federalists and Brutus asserted that the new U.S. Constitution would eventually lead to the termination of the state governments, the consolidation of the Union into â€Å"one great republic† under an unchecked national government, and as a result the loss of free, self-government. Brutus additionally thought that in such an extensive and diverse nation, nothing short of despotism â€Å"could bind so great a country under one government.† Brutus suggests that large governments give room for â€Å"absolute and uncontrollable power† which allows for a large diverse government, which would, in turn, threaten personal liberty. These large governments lead to ambitious enterprises, glory, empire building, and adventurism; all of which the Anti-Federalists agree should be prevented in a society. Brutus stresses homogeneity and virtue because these represent harmony and discordant principles. People are more likely to be civic spirited in a small republic, rather than a large one which the Federalists are supportive of. In the letter from Samuel Adams to John Scollay, we see Adam’s Anti-Federalist view of government. Adams supports... ... effects of factions, Madison argues that factions should be controlled and allowed to exist; factions are not only essential to a republic but also natural and therefore unavoidable. While a variety of factions exist, Madison asserts that the strongest factions are those dealing with economics. As such, Madison advocates a large, commercial republic to control the effects of factions: large in that the more factions exist, the less likelihood any one faction will gain absolute power as the factions will frequently form and re-form short-term coalitions; commercial in that the individual must have freedom in the market in order to preserve the creation of economic factions. A republican form of government is essential to control factions since minorities are given some protection as the representative would be more interested in the public good than self-interest.

Will the Internet Make the World Closer Argumentetive Essay

Will the Internet Make the World Closer Argumentetive Essay Saleh Alansari [email  protected] com Sunday,Oct 28 , 2012 One press of a button on your laptop can show you another world. Internet makes many of changes at several of scopes, such as obtainig credible sourses and developing huge range of commissinons (Wellman, 2002). For example, the high commission of developing the transportation, education, tourism, and presenting the civilization from country to another country (Wellman, 2002).Nowadays, the internet is already a part of our society (Wellman, 2002). In the 1970s, an international network of networks had been created and then computers, telephone lines, and radio networks had finally started working (Poole, & Schuyler, & Senft, 1999). After these developments, would human’s life be completely transformed? Even though there are different levels of technology around the world, Wellman mentions the levels do not matter about the Internet’s impact on both soc ieties and individuals today (Wellman, 2002).The Internet will make the world closer in business, communication and education. First of all, there are many ways that will improve business by Internet and the technology. Internet can lead businessman or businesswomen to communicate with their workers easily. As well as it can help people to find a great business. Internet in these days is very important for many people, notably businessman or businesswoman. However, that is significant for a lot of other, such as people who do not have enough money to travel to find new businesses and featured for many of them. What has the Internet developed in our business? Is not too hard to answer this question if we look at the development of ordering, accounting, selling, advertising, and managing (Michal, 1997). Businessman or businesswomen can easily see themselves only as consumers whose participation is limited to purchasing decision that together add up to a market force pushing one way or another to develop their business (Zittrain, 2008). In short, the Internet has encouraged people to develop their businesses in easy way.Second, people who usually using the Internet are more likely to use the Internet in a variety of social activities and to communicate with friends and family members (Wellman, 2002). The presence of the Internet is important in many things, such as access to resources, social interaction, and communication to local community and outside community (Wellman, 2002). People these days are traveling and mostly of people are studying outside of their own countries in order to achieving at least one of their dreams. At the same time, they always like to have a connection with their friends and families. They are lucky because they are in the era of globalization, developed Internet and the evolution in this world of technology day by day. Now, everyday we hear about a new device of specializing in telecommunications, such as iPhones, Galaxy, etc and it is clearly connected to the Internet server. Most people who use the internet say that the Internet has increase their communication between family members and friends as well as it has a unique quality as a communication channel and the ability to easily connect with others who has similar interest, values, and beliefs. (John, & Katelyn, & McKenna, 2004).Third, there are many reasons that help to say online education is great in someway, such as accessible 24 hours and student-centered teaching. The Internet leads students to study whenever and wherever they want (Online Education Database, 2012). For example, they can travel for their pleasures or businesses and they do not need to focus on their fixed schedules like they should attend their classes on time. Student-centered teaching means everyone has his or her own way to study (Alan, 2009). For instance, some people are more likely to learn online and everyone has his or her owns reasons. Moreover, children can no longer lie to th eir parents about their home works and grades because their schools post those in their web pages and the parents are able to figure out those through the Internet (Michal, 1997). Many students find that they have learned about each other by the Internet also they can reach each other by, emailing and chatting (Wellman, 2002). Students now have great opportunities to study easier more than students before but students in future will have more opportunities to study more easily. Some people might say that the Internet will not make the world closer. It is not closely with each other. For example, when they speak to each other on Skype or chat on Facebook they are not close enough to each other. Also, It might have high possible to increase social and psychological problems (Kimberly, 1999). As well as the Internet can affect decline of ethical people. It is showing many negative subjects. For example, porno websites, which are showing naked bodies, are becoming normal to see by many p eople (Muhammad, 1999). Of course misinformation is developed a lot on Internet (Anne, 2002). Therefore, some people use the Internet as a force to falsify many topics. For example, some websites are present that shows false information about religions, culture and medicine (Anne, 2002). Using Internet incorrectly causes some disadvantages to people such as losing time or having social and psychological problems (Kimberly, 1999). Spending a huge time by using Internet means exactly people waste their time. For instance, many people are using their much time for watching YouTube and looking at Facebook constantly (CNN, 2009) Lots of people especially in Canada check their Facebook every hour (Education, 2009).Also, Internet can cause people to have social serious issues. For example, many people around the world get isolation by people who can use Internet a lot and the isolated people eventually lose their social abilities. For example, they spend much time connecting with each other by texting instead of connecting face to face. Therefore, isolation might cause a psychological problem like depression. However, it is not close to each other but at least they have a way to talk freely and with out pay any money.People should control and solve these problems especially for our new upcoming generations. Also, people who writing false information on the Internet about culture and religious need to solve their problems because that means the exactly meaning of psychological problems (Anne, 2002). Isolation problems are not coming from the Internet only. Many people have those problems with out any effect of Internet. The development of business, education, communication, and civilization are explaining the huge of range benefits we got of the Internet.People spend too much time on the Internet should reschedule their times to avoid social and psychological problems (Kimberly, 1999). To sum up, the Internet had improved our lives in businesses, communication with oth ers, and education. Nowadays, we live with huge growth of technology and anything people want can get it easily by Internet. When we think about how much has the Internet changed in our society, we can look closely at the development for lots of things, such as business, education, communication, civilization, and commission. This shows that the Internet helps to develop our globalization more and more. Also, it explains how the Internet can be one of the biggest helpful services we have in our civilizations. Internet is a helpful and powerful force for doing our work but it can be detrimental, such as a decrease of ethics, an increase of misinformation and sometimes a waste of time. The Internet might be caused some problems, such as social, psychological, and isolation. However, to avoid those problems people should reschedule their times and think about it more seriously before their problems evolve. ReferencesAlan. Pritchard. (2009). Ways of Learning. Income Elasticity of Demand

Price elasticity of demand measures the degree of responsiveness of quantity demanded of a good X to a given change to a price of itself, ceteris paribus. Price elasticity of demand is calculated by dividing the proportionate change in quantity demanded by the proportionate change in price. When PED is greater than one (PED > 1) demand is said to be elastic When PED is between zero to one (0 > PED > 1) demand in said to be inelastic When PED is equal to one (PED > 1) demand is said to be unit-elastic (unitary elasticity) A perfectly inelastic demand curve, perpendicular to the X-axis, has zero elasticity. A perfectly elastic demand curve, horizontal to X axis, is infinitely elastic. The price elasticity of demand for a particular demand curve is influenced by the following factors: Availability of substitutes: the greater the number of substitute products, the greater the elasticity. Degree of necessity or luxury: luxury products tend to have greater elasticity than necessities. Some products that initially have a low degree of necessity are habit forming and can become â€Å"necessities† to some consumers. Proportion of income required by the item: products requiring a larger portion of the consumer's income tend to have greater elasticity. †¢ Time period considered: elasticity tends to be greater over the long run because consumers have more time to adjust their behavoir to price changes. Income elasticity of demand measure the degree of responsiveness of quantity demanded of good X to a given change in level of income, ceteris paribus. Income elasticity of demand is calculated by dividing the proportionate change in quantity demanded by the proportionate change in level of income. When YED is less than one (YED ; 1) demand is income inelastic. When YED is greater than one (YED ; 1) demand is income elastic. If YED is negative (YED ; 0) the good is sometimes referred to as an inferior good as opposed to normal goods ( 0 ; YED ; 1) and superior ( luxury ) goods (YED;1). The income elasticity of demand for a particular demand curve is influenced by the following factors: †¢ Need of good ( Basic necessity or luxury good ) †¢ Level of income †¢ Time factor One reason for this is that as a society becomes richer, there are changes in consumer perceptions about different goods and services together with changes in consumer tastes and preferences. What might have been considered a luxury good several years ago might now be regarded as a necessity Income Elasticity of Demand Income Elasticity of Demand is a measure of responsiveness of demand to the changes in income and it involves demand curve shifts. It provides information on the direction of change of demand, given a change in income and the size of the change. Formula for YED: Percentage change in quantity demanded = %?Q Percentage change in income %?Y Normal goods have a positive value of YED, while Inferior goods have a negative value of YED as shown in the graph below: Normal goods: when income increases, demand for normal goods increases as well. An increase in income leads to an increase in consumption, demand shifts to the right Inferior goods: when income increases, demand for this good falls. The demand curve shifts left as income rises. As income rises, the proportion spent on food tends to fall while the proportion spent on services tends to rise. Necessity and Luxury goods Necessity YED 1 If a good has a YED that is greater than one, is has income elastic demand: a percentage increase in income produces a larger percentage increase in quantity demanded. Luxuries are income elastic goods. Like the I Phone or chewing gum. Applications of Income and elasticity of demand YED implication for producers and for the economy Overt time the economy grows and the society’s income increases. Increasing income means a rising demand for goods and services. If the average economic growth is 3% per year, goods and services have income elastic demand (YED >1) thus, the demand of these goods and services grows at a higher rate than 3%. Examples include Restaurants, Movies and Health care, (these goods and services are produced by industries that develop and expand more rapidly than the total income in the economy). Also the demands of other goods such as food, clothing and furniture which are inelastic have a rate of less than 3%, (these goods and services are produced by industries growing more slowly than total income). Higher YED greater future expansion Lower YED Smaller future expansion This means that before you may produce a good think about the YED. The three parts of an Economy Primary sector agriculture, forestry, fishing and extractive industries. Positive YED thus is income inelastic. * Manufacturing sector textile and appliances. Income elastic Negative YED. * Service sector entertainment, insurance and education. Higher YED, greater percentage increase in the demand. Hence as the total output of agricultural shares in the economy drops, the share manufactured output grows. Through continuous growth, t he service sector expands at the expense of both agriculture and manufacturing as shown in the diagram below: Less economically developed countries have a larger primary sector while developed countries are dominated by services. **Remember that if the total output increases over time, a falling share of a certain sector (like the primary sector) does not automatically mean that the output is reducing, probably the sectors output is growing but slower than the total output. An increasing share for a sector means that its output is growing more rapidly than the total output.

Deontological Teleological Theories

Deontological Teleological Theories Free Online Research Papers There are three types of ethical systems. The normative ethical system can be broken down into three categories: Deontological ethics, Teleological ethics, and Virtue ethics. In this paper I will be discussing the differences between Deontological and Teleological ethics as well as the problems with both. I will also discuss where my beliefs stand and compare them to others. Deontology derives from the Greek work â€Å"deon-†, which means â€Å"duty†, and â€Å"-ology† which means the study of. It is the approach to ethics that is mainly about the rightness or wrongness of a particular action as opposed to consequences of the action itself. It is also described as â€Å"duty† or â€Å"described† ethics. Also described as â€Å"moral absolutists†, Deontologists believe that ethics â€Å"bind you to your duty.† Morality is an absolute no matter the penalty or consequence. Basically, if you are ethical it is because you are doing what you have to according to duty. You are bound to the rules as a duty to society. The famous Immanuel Kant believed that it is always wrong to lie, no matter what the consequence(s) are. Even if someone is facing the possibility of death, and you have the opportunity to save them with a lie, that would be unethical in it’s stance. There are some ethical theories that deal with deontological studies. There is: divine command, duty theories, rights theories, contractarianism, and monistic deontology. Divine command is one of the most common beliefs of deontological theories. It is the theory that their moral obligations are to God, and no one else. An action is morally accurate when it is in agreement with the rules and duties established by God. Duty theories are morally correct if it is an accord with some list of duties or obligations. Someone would make a list of duties or obligations that they deem moral. They would then abide by those rules at any cost. No matter that the consequence, they abode by those rules (most of the time they were rules they found directly from the Bible). Rights theories deem an action morally right if it respects the rights of all persons or members of society. Rights theories was a political philosophy that believes people should be free to do whatever they wish as long as it does not infringe on the rights of others. This theory is also called Libertarianism. Contractarianism is considered an action that is morally right if it is in accordance with the rules that rational moral agents would agree to observe upon entering into a social relationship (contract) for mutual benefit. This is also sometimes referred to as Contractualism. Most would not agree upon this theory because it does not have much to do with ethical laws. Monistic deontology has to do with an action that is morally right if it agrees with some at least one deontological principle that guides all other subsidiary principles. So, as long as there is one guide – let’s say that guide is the Bible – you abide with than you are morally right and it would be acceptable. Now there are some problems with the deontological theory. Most of the time there tends to be a conflict of rules. There would be a rule not to lie as well as a rule not to harm any person physically. Those two rules seem pretty easy to abide by right? Well, what if you have to lie in order to not hurt a person? There are some situations that would constitute a confliction of convictions. That is when most would just choose the â€Å"lesser of two evils,† but that would make a person rely on which of the two has the least evil consequence. Therefore, the choice would have been made as a consequentialist or teleological basis rather than a deontological basis. That is where the two collide. Another problem with the deontological moral system is that it does not allow for any grey areas. It is based on absolutes where the morality of an action is never questioned. In most cases we do have conflicting duties and issues that makes decisions difficult to decipher if you are a deontological believer. As well, rules and duties change as time goes by making it difficult to follow all the same rules all the time especially when the consequences change as frequently. Teleology is the study of design and purpose. The root word â€Å"telos† means end or purpose. A teleological based thought is directed toward the end result. Teleology is a more humanistic point of view. It is to do whatever is in the best interest of the being. Teleology deals with foreseeing the consequences rather than just abiding robotically by rules. Thus, when we are making choices that result in the correct consequences, then we are acting morally. When we make choices that result in the incorrect consequences, then we are acting immorally. In order to make moral choices we have to have some understanding of what the result from our choices will be. It is said that there are two types of a final cause: extrinsic and intrinsic finality. Extrinsic finality consists of a person realizing that their purpose is the utility and welfare of other beings. For example, grass is made to grow in order to sustain the life of animals and animals are designed to sustain the life of humans. The intrinsic finality consists of a person realizing that its purpose is directed toward the perfection of its own nature. So, life is given to us and we are intended to behave in certain ways so as to preserve ourselves from death, disease, and pain. Aside from deontological and teleological ethics, there is virtue ethics. Virtue ethics is a virtue-based theory that places less emphasis on what rules people should follow. It instead focuses on helping people develop good character traits. It is believed with virtue ethics that these character traits will, in turn, allow a person to make the correct decisions later on in life. Virtue theorists also emphasize the need for people to learn how to break bad habits of character. These â€Å"bad traits† are called â€Å"vices† and they stand in the way of becoming a good person. I think I would have to more agree with virtue ethics. Since you cannot always follow the rules and still remain constantly moral than why try so hard? Rules do change all the time and you cannot follow every rule all the time. I don’t think someone is unethical simply because they do not keep every rule ever. When it comes to ones duties, I do believe you should adhere to your personal duties and keep your word. So my ethical view wouldn’t be too deontological. I also don’t think I have a teleological view on ethics either. I don’t think you should base your personal code of ethics on what the consequences are going to be. Sometimes the consequences of telling the truth are bad, but you should do it anyway. The end result is not always the most important thing to think about when you are making a moral decision because you do not know the future, and cannot rightfully predict what would happen. So, virtue ethics is where I stand so far. I think as long as you have good character than you will be able to make right choices in life. Ethics has to do with who you are. BICULTURALISMS INFLUENCE ON THE VISUAL CULTURE OF SOUTHEAST essays Biculturalism is an integral part in analyzing the contemporary and modern artwork of Southeast Asia. Regardless of the country, every part of Southeast Asia has its own history with a complex timeline of western influences that have an impact on the style of each countrys art. This essay will focus mainly on Bali in looking specifically at how western influences have shaped the visual style that has since become identifiably specific to Southeast Asian artists in these two countries. There are several various ways that the National identity of these countries in relation to its historical colonial origin have, throughout history, influenced artists in both the content and style of their art but this essay will be focusing on three specific categories of influence: visiting western mentors of the visual arts, the consumer tourist market and its demand on specific pieces of art in Southeast Asia, as well as specific artists and their struggle for their own national identity. Looking at art in Southeast Asia in the twentieth century, one begins to notice a development of technique and style, specifically in Bali, around the nineteen thirties. This has been attributed to the influence of visiting artists, namely Walter Spies and Rudolf Bonnet, both of whom made their homes in Bali in the late 1920s (Geertz, 6) . Prior to Spies and Bonnets arrival in it becomes difficult to trace back the styles found in the modern and contemporary art of Bali. If one were to compare the traditional paintings found in Bali to the works made in the nineteen thirties and thereafter one would clearly see a difference in style and technique. In the traditional paintings discussed by Geertz one sees stiff figures stand[ing] against white backgrounds...There is no differentiation between foreground and background; all the figures are on one plane whereas the paintings made in Bali in the nineteen thirties...

Analysis of the Idea to Use More Automation in Business

Analysis of the Idea to Use More Automation in Business Through studying business and computer science, I hope to make the world around us a better place with technology. I believe that better technology and more automation will always improve our lives, and will serve as the great equalizer for all marginalized people. My interest is bridging the gap between technology and business particularly in venture capital and investment strategies. Women are often discriminated against when seeking venture capital for their business or idea, and I believe this is a huge opportunity for value creation both for investors and for the world. My long-term goal is to develop an application that uses AI to guide venture decisions, allowing for startups to be judged on merit and destroying the glass ceiling for female and minority entrepreneurs. Although Im not a particularly math-oriented person, I have had a passion for computer engineering and have since a very young age. Attending entrepreneurship conferences and trade shows as well as going to an engineering program in high school has shown me how male-dominated the field can be, and despite being a man myself, I see the losses we take. I’ve seen this very personally: throughout middle school, I was involved with my moms startup company, helping where I could and even pitching to potential investors and customers. However, as a barely 53 woman, she had a very hard time being taken seriously despite the momentum she was gaining, and she could no longer afford to run it. This got to me, but I couldnt place why until I started my own last year: even as a student, I was taken seriously and talked to as an equal by nearly everyone, even local businesspeople. Seeing this difference has made me realize the discrepancy between the sexes in small business and instilled in me a drive to correct it.

Objects and Non-Traditional Media in Art Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Objects and Non-Traditional Media in Art - Essay Example This trend continued into the 19th century as Vincent Van Gogh experimented with impression, and well into the 20th century, as artists such as Pablo Picasso and later Jackson Pollock revolutionized the medium through increasing forays into abstract modes of expression (Gombrich, 1994). While the subject matter of these visual works greatly changed over time, their overriding medium remained largely constant. Through conceptual and minimalist movements, art in the second half of the 20th century began to step outside the canvas-painting trend (Osbourne 2011). Today artists regularly use or manipulate objects and non-traditional media in creating art. Through a consideration of intentions and methods, this essay examines artists’ implementations of such objects and non-traditional media. Perhaps the 20th century’s most prominent non-traditional medium is assemblage art. This specific art form establishes two or three-dimensional art forms by combining found objects (Lock hart 2010). In better understanding the structural nature of this art, one considers that its parallel in literature is stories or novels formed from already existing texts (Lockhart 2010). While assemblage art forms date to as early as Picasso’s early 20th century cubist constructions, the term was first articulated in the 1950s after Jean Dubuffet’s work ‘assemblages d'empreintes’ (Lockhart 2010). ... While assemblage art refers to a specific type of non-traditional production, one also considers the implications of transcending mainstream modes of artistic expression. In gaining interpretive insight into such an event, it is necessary to step outside traditional art criticism into perspectives that analyze the broader media. One of the most seminal such perspectives in this arena is that of Marshall McLuhan. McLuhan (1964) argued that the medium is the message. While such a statement makes a variety of complex arguments, one element is that the very nature of the medium necessitates shifts in meaning. When such a perspective is extended to artists working in non-traditional mediums, one comes to recognize that such expression not only functions as a means of the artist creating a unique work, but is necessary to capture the increasingly complex cultural signs operating within modern social contexts. It will be seen that the central thorough-put in assemblage and non-traditional a rt is an effort to codify and comment on this complexity. When considering the use of non-traditional forms of expression one of the seminal early assemblage artists is Joseph Cornell. Cornell’s work largely was created around the mid-20th century, paving the way for future forays into assemblage (Soloman 1996). While the Cornell’s exact motivation for venturing into non-traditional mediums is unknown, today his work carries with it a haunting, yet characteristic aesthetic (Soloman 1996). Cornell’s work mainly centered on small boxes that he would meticulously fill and arrange with objects. Fig. 1 below is an image of Cornell’s 1950 work ‘Planet Set.’ From observation one recognizes the highly uncharacteristic and unique assemblage of
